China just put another cosmic switchboard operator in orbit

In the small hours of the morning, a Long March 7A lit up the coconut groves of Wenchang and punched Tianlian-3 01 into the sky — the kind of switchboard operator that keeps the cosmos quietly on the line.

The Tianlian fleet acts as a relay tower floating roughly 36,000 kilometers up, so every chat between a spacecraft and mission control routes through one of them first. Think of it as a 24/7 cosmic call center, and Tianlian-3 01 is its newest hire.

China's relay crew just got a little bigger, and somewhere in Wenchang, a coconut tree is starting to lose interest in the nightly fireworks next door.
