Hand grandma an iPhone — and breathe easy

A casual Weibo post — "just buy your elders an iPhone" — climbed the trending charts this week, and the joke lands harder than it should. Android phones are still crowded with pre-installed apps, pop-up ads, and "cleanup assistants" that behave more like malware; Apple's walled garden, meanwhile, has quietly earned a reputation as the more boringly reliable option.

What really wins over older users is the stuff that never makes the keynote. FaceTime connects family with one tap. Find My gives a lost phone a second chance. iMessage shrugs off most phishing links. Kids buy iPhones for novelty; grandparents, increasingly, buy them for peace of mind.

None of this is a verdict on Android. It does, however, expose a small prejudice: slap the label "senior phone" on a device and it inherits a dowry of cheapness, tiny text, and a manual nobody reads. The kinder choice is simply a phone that doesn't ask to be tolerated.
