Halfway through the break, the homework notebook is still pristine. The daily write-or-else standoff has become a summer ritual in households across China.
The issue usually isn't laziness — it's a broken rhythm and an overwhelming goal. Slice the workload into game-like levels, and shift the reward from "finished" to "started." Resistance tends to ease up on its own.
There's no universal fix, of course. Handing kids a sliver of choice — which subject first, how long to write, whether to queue up some background music — almost always works better than the third reminder of the day.
